History
The REGENSBURG SHORT FILM WEEK was founded in 1994 by the Arbeitskreis Film e.V. and takes place since then in an annual cycle. In the first year it was just a small experiment with one festival cinema. Today with up to four festival cinemas the SHORT FILM WEEK is not just a firm institution in the cultural life of Regensburg but also one of THE cultural highlights of the whole region.
While in the beginning there was just one general program, meanwhile there are four competitions and diverse special programs. The German and the International Competition are the main focus of the festival. Here we receive several thousand submissions by now.
Less submissions but likewise high interest holds the Window To The Region. This competition gives small directors the opportunity to show their films on the big screen.
The winners of each competition are chosen by a respective jury. A special jury is the Jury Of The Young, which awards the Prize of the city of Regensburg since the first SHORT FILM WEEK.
Besides the competions there are several special programs. Every year there is an own program for a specific topic and a retrospective of an international known director. Also since the first SHORT FILM WEEK the younger audience can watch adequate films in the children´s program.
A heyday and publics favourite are the „record films" established in 1999. At this event DJs from Regensburg compose on site to silent films. Since the interest in the „record films" is growing even national and international DJs contributed to this event during the last years.
In the year 2000 another program was brought to life: „Cinema Mi Amor". Here you can watch declarations of love to the short film by experts who compile a special program of their favourite films, which once conquered their heart.
Thanks to the sponsors it is possible to present such a versatile program. Besides this offering of films you can enjoy active discussions, a good atmosphere and unique parties in the SHORT FILM WEEK café and particularly at the festival club KINOKNEIPE, where you can join every evening the After-Cinema-Party with DJs.
Another highlight is the Zündfunk-Party, one of the best parties in Bavaria according to Zündfunk-DJ Achim Bogdahn.
