CONSTANZE WOLPERS

In this talk format, we focus on structural racism in Germany together with director Constanze Wolpers and her film EINE EINZELNE TAT. The starting point is the case of 15-year-old Ezidi Arkan Hussein Khalaf, who was stabbed to death in the small town of Celle in northern Germany. The police investigation left behind 1700 pages of interviews, interrogations, autopsies and protocols. But which terms found their way into the verdict - and which were lost?

This essayistic documentary reads the files and questions their performativity. It examines how those who write the narrative about the crime are influenced by their own imprints and self-images. The chronicle of major soccer tournaments from 1990 to 2014 serves as a mirror of German identity formation: from the right-wing attacks in the early 1990s under Helmut Kohl to the patriotic exuberance of the “summer fairytale” of 2006 and the myth of the multi-ethnic world champion team of 2014. The film contrasts this with the perspective of Arkan's family: How did they experience the night of the crime? And why is there no question for them that racism played the central role?

The film will be shown as part of the event and forms the starting point for a further discussion.

A SINGLE INCIDENT

The cat's howl conquers the urban space! It wanders through early-night alleys, meows from abandoned street corners, and climbs up building facades because: A WALL IS A SCREEN is coming back to Regensburg. The artist group from Hamburg has been offering special city walks since 2003, now spanning across the globe. With short films meticulously tailored to the surroundings both thematically and architecturally, they guide interested individuals and passersby through the nighttime urban space of Regensburg. A WALL IS A SCREEN has already been invited to the festival in Regensburg four times in past years. For the 30th anniversary, they will also incorporate the city of Regensburg's cultural theme into their short film walk. The great thing about it: the tour is free, and anyone can spontaneously join.
